It's an horizontal mini-spool, to store a small amount of filament right under your Huxley.

I wanted to put the spool under the Huxley to go further in my "carry-plug'n print" need of a portable reprap for short demo in street, conference, etc.

It appear smaller that I thought (thus the "mini spool"), but it works and can load 50-60m of 1,75mm filament. (as on the previous spool, just swap your spool holder when you want to change the filament)

How to install it

As on the picture, its a square of threaded rods which the Huxley is put on.

You'll need some M8 threaded rods, I used the leftover from a Mendel build (previously used in another spool design), 2* ~300cm and 2* ~150cm. Connected with 4 bar-joint (don't forget to put the 4 tall parts on the short rods before). Then you can snap the spindle whenever you whant, and the spool on it.

Their is two version of the spool, one is made of 4 parts like for the "Heavy Duty one" but scaled down, and the other is in one piece in case you have a 200x200mm bed available.

Now that you have a splendid micro-spool built, just make the Huxley rest on it.

(And probably add a z-endstop-holder which is perfect as a filament guide snaped on the frame)

(you can install the spindle at any time, and remove it later for spool swap)

It's also possible to make it vertical with some zip-tie
