A view of the test setup. Of course, this tool is meant to be installed on an automatic XYZ table (like RepRap or MakerBot) but for a quick test it was installed on the little manual Sherline. The waxuum was simply clamped to the vertical stage of the mill. A block of casting wax was clamped to the table. The wax used is McMaster P/N 93955K73, which has a melting point at about 150 F (65 C). The pump is hooked up to four valves that act like an H-bridge. For this experiment, only vacuum was used. The thermistor board was not connected and was not in use. The heater was powered continuously at 12V without feedback control. Temperature of the tip could be controlled by adjusting the rate of airflow through the waxuum. High airflow = colder; lower airflow = hotter.
