A RepStrap is a 3D printer cobbled together from whatever parts you can find, which will eventually allows you to print the parts for a RepRap printer, or to simply use as a stand alone machine. Derived from the term bootstrap, as in "to pull yourself up by your bootstraps"

A RepStrap is a open-hardware rapid prototyping machine which is made by fabrication processes which aren't under the RepRap umbrella yet. These are becoming less and less common as RepRap printed parts become more available, but are still an option. You can build a 3D printer RepStrap using a tablesaw, or using a lasercutter, and use this to make fun, beautiful, useful things.

If there is a page on the RepRap wiki that describes a RepStrap but is not listed on this page, please edit that page and put the {{tag|RepStrap}} or the [[category:RepStrap]] tag on it. Then the wiki will automatically display a link to that page at the bottom of this page.

Introduction

the objective of this project is to make a 3D printer and a filament extruder this will be accomplished using parts obtained locally and cheaply

3D printer

The 3d printer will be similar to the ultimaker using the strong points of its design

filament extruder

this will melt raw plastic pellets and turn them into feedstock(filament) to be used by the printer

the extruder will be made by improving upon the previous plastic extruders that have been or are being made for this purpose but the design will be affected by availability of parts
