Introduction
I am a student at Penn State working on a Hybrid Prusa Mendel build. Have a prusa of my own on the way as well. It's all built, just need to finish calibrating and fixing small problems.
Projects:
- Building a Prusa Mendel PSU Unit Green for Penn State's Reprap class.
- Finishing my own personal SAE Prusa build.

Important Measurements
For use with firmware as well as software:
- Overall
- Stepper motors are 1.8° per step or 200 steps per revolution
- Driven by Pololu A4983 drivers with sixteenth-step settings
- X & Y axes
- 8 tooth pulley using XL drive belt
- (steps per motor revolution) ÷ (drive belt teeth per revolution) ÷ (belt pitch OR distance between belt teeth) = steps per millimeter
- 200 (without microstepping) ÷ 8 (default pulley) ÷ 5.08 mm = 4.921 steps per mm
- 200 (without microstepping) ÷ 10 (10t XL Pulley for SAE Prusa Mendel by BenJackson) ÷ 5.08 mm = 3.937 steps per mm
- 8 tooth pulley using XL drive belt
- Z axis
- 5/16"-18 threaded rod
- (steps per motor revolution) ÷ (pitch of the thread) = steps per millimeter
- 200 (without microstepping) ÷ (25.4 ÷ 18 or 1.411) = 141.732 steps per mm
- 5/16"-18 threaded rod
- Extruder
- 5/16" hobbed bolt
- (steps per motor revolution) × (gear ratio) ÷ (pinch wheel diameter × π)
- 200 (without microstepping) × (39 ÷ 11 = 3.545) ÷ (7.08 × π = 22.242) = 31.880 steps per mm
- 3mm feedstock and a 0.50 mm nozzle
- 5/16" hobbed bolt
Thanks to McNeight for the measurements and profile setup.
