String drive/ Driveshaft drive. nichrome hotend and threaded filament driver. this is my attempt to contribute my works to the reprap/repstrap comunity. // note to site, edit at will. Please note this was done as an individual researching reprap.
The original design began as something like the antipollo but due to budget and realistic considerations, it turned into a handcrafted wood box with string drive belts. planning it in 3d helped me resolve a lot of problems before they were real ones, like the cost of the parts to make an antipollo or mendel90 made it too risky the wife would find out what I was doing too soon..
The difficult part of designing your own machine is- everything you do differently from everyone else.
A simple wooden frame to hold the control board, motors and power supply. its a 300w pc supply,
6 wire nema 17 motors, this photo does not show the atmega 2560, or the wiring, more up to date photos and video can be seen at the repstrap group on facebook.
This was my first set of arduino and ramps, the arduino alone worked fine, but when ramps were installed, it returned errors and communication failures at the speed of light. This was not helpful to a guy new to arduino. but it was very educational.
