Hello, my name is Sam Viknyansky, and I am a sophomore studying biomedical engineering. I've had SolidWorks training in a previous class, but have only started printing objects myself. Below is a picture of me and a few items I drafted in SolidWorks last year (and printed thanks to the Rep Rap crew here):

This was from the final design project, from which we actually received a 3D model. Fun fact: it's based on my hardcover copy of "Into the Wild"

First Thoughts

I have just started this course on RepRap, and am excited to learn how this system can be applied to living "bio-ink" media. The coupling of 3D printing with biomedical engineering has already brought hope to those awaiting organ transplants; a functioning ear and many kinds of tissues have already been printed as of today. Companies like Organovo are taking the initiative, and one team hopes to print a fully-functional heart by 2024.
