This page has gotten out of hand. It seems to consist of selections from a myriad of sources copy/pasted in a disjointed manner. I don't think a beginners guide should be "complete". Beginners don't need so many hardware, software, and electronics permutations. I think this page should be edited down in order to give a brief summary of a few popular options, then focus on one combination.
