Buckrap's Hot End

Here is a simple design Hot End.

Parts

Totaal costs are (under 15 euro's):

  • PTFE tube 6mm (ext) 30-50 cm
  • brass nozzle 0.5mm extruder and M6 (purchased @ Camiel)
  • M6 nut
  • M6 brass end / coupling nut (photo)
  • Nicrome wire
  • thermistor
  • Perforated assembly tape 6mm (In the right-down corner of the parts picture)
  • kapton tape 5mm (and optionally 10 mm)
  • Cord End Terminals 1mm
  • wire

Tools

  • pliers
  • wirecutter
  • crimping tool for Cord End Terminals
  • scissors
  • 10 mm key (M6 nut)
  • multimeter

Step 1

  • first push the M6 nut on tube and use the key turn it about 2 cm on tube. Then pull back the nut and remove it.
  • turn the tube into to connector
  • turn the brass into the connector


Step 2

  • tape the connector and the brass
  • place the Nicrome wire (note to self 28,3 cm and check for 6 ohm)
  • tape the Nicrome in place

  • isolate the termistor wires with kapton tape

Step 4

Take attention here

  • strip 2 writes over 7 cm
  • strip 2 writes over 4 cm
  • crimp the long wires to the Nicrome
  • crimp the short wires to the termistor
  • isolate all wires separate

Step 5

  • wrap them together
  • wrap them to the connector
  • isolate to top of the connector (temp isolating)

Step 6

  • Use Perforated assembly tape to mount (MakerBot example here)
