Multimaterial Printing

David,

Your improvements to "Concept multimaterial laser printer" are appreciated. If you're still interested in the project, I have some ideas on a similar project that I'd like to develop. I thought it best to discuss the ideas before editing the wiki or starting my own. My email is [email protected] or feel free to use the white canvas of my User talk page.

Re:Thank You

David,

Thanks for taking a look! Unfortunately, I've been swamped lately, and progress on the Mendel that is going to build the TRap has slowed to a crawl. I hope to address your comments here:

  1. I really enjoyed seeing the T-rep. Looking at the wiki page and blog was pretty cool. I hope that my design gets that far, in terms of workability. TRap (Pronounced as a single unhyphenated word: "trap") is a development name, and will eventually be changed - if the project ever gets to a usable state. At that time, I'll appropriate the name of some pioneering and iconoclastic biologist. For the moment though, I'm going to stick with it, as that is the name which ties all my design files together.
  2. I'm not sure that I understand your comment here. The sketch is not entirely clear, as there are no motors shown. Each motor-leadscrew assembly will connect a corner of the base and the outer (furthest from center) free corner of a tetrahedron. Both of these conections will need to pivot to allow the tetrahedron to move properly. The joint at the base is a simple pivot. The joint at the corner of the tetrahedron is a bit more complex, as it contains the leadscrew nut, which must pivot. The actual design of the tetrahedron at that point needs to be worked out, mostly so that the leadscrew does not crash against the tetrahedron when it is fully retracted.

And your question:

I don't know. I hope that I can use an existing firmware, as that would reduce my task list substantially. (And I know very little about uC programming. I'll always welcome competent help (in any aspect of this project), so if you are interested, or know someone who might be, please let me know.

Thanks for taking a look at my project! I hope to hear more from you.

P.S. I've already posted this to my talk page. (I'm posting it here to make sure you get my reply.)

P.P.S. I just checked out the Delta page on the wiki. I'd seen Reinoud's stuff elsewhere on the web, but didn't know it had it's own wiki page. I'll have to go through that in more detail later and see what they've come up with.

Hi David,

I've only been editing since September, so I'm no authority (as far as there is any authority here). But i think it sounds fine, as long as you create the templates for MergeFrom and MergeTo. The current Merge template is a bit obtrusive, which is good for the 'source' page, since maybe it will recruit others to help. But I think it's too obtrusive for the 'destination' page. Just using the single template could also be confusing, as others won't know which is the page to be merged into.

That's why i took it off the destination page. but it would be nice to have a simple template that says something like

"There is an ongoing merge. In the meantime, you might also want to look at [MergeFromPage]"

Looks Great! nice job, and thanks for all the help editing.--Buback 02:50, 15 November 2010 (UTC)

Re: Repic

Hi David, sorry for taking so long to respond, I haven't logged on in a couple of weeks...too busy building my RepRap :)

With regard to the Virtual Mendel code I'll definitely be releasing it to the public as soon as I can (hopefully within the next month). I only just got the belts installed so I'm currently integrating the stepper control code with the host software.

Re: CamRap

Hi David,

I have created a github repo for the camrap software and added some images to the CamRap page.

If you have a chance to test it I'd be happy to hear about any problems getting it to work, bugs or suggestions.

It's Python on Linux only at the moment, but if that's a problem I'll try that other OS.

I am going to have to construct a better X-Y stage to test it against some "real" work, maybe high-res etching of aluminium foil for a "PCB". I wonder if you have any suggestions on that front?

Thanks

Re: Duplication of OpenSCAD pages

Hi there David, I duplicated the pages on OpenSCAD as the OpenSCAD is much easier to link to, (redirection and moving the page has its disadvantages) which could serve as a basic info for openscad. The source page could serve, as you say, a more advanced dito. Apparently this is yet another one of those more "time optimistic" edits of mine. Thanks for making me aware of this! --Danielpublic 10:15, 19 February 2013 (UTC)

Hi

Hi, I'm new here, but I've had a good deal of experience editing in a Wiki environment. I noticed that there are a lot of spam/nonsense pages being created here, and I marked a few for deletion (I think...still figuring out how things are done around here). I wanted to ask if there is some sort of a "village pump" around here where people can discuss issues related to Wiki maintenance, etc. Also, are there noticeboards for reporting/blocking users who create spam pages or vandalize, or is it even worth the effort? Was I correct in the way I went about marking the pages for deletion? Adjwilley 03:42, 2 March 2013 (UTC)

Yes, replacing spam with template:delete brings spam to the attention of the appropriate people -- it appears that all the pages you marked have already been deleted before I logged in, so I guess you must have done it right.
Perhaps the closest thing to our "village pump" is the Community portal.
There is some discussion of Wiki maintenance at Wiki Administration and RepRap_project_FAQ#Wiki and some of the category: community pages.
As far as I know, there is no noticeboard for reporting users who spam or vandalize -- apparently the people who search for pages tagged with template:delete block the users who do that and don't see the point of another noticeboard ( Argument Kills Uploads ).
There is a little discussion about the wiki at RepRap forums: "Library Administration, Announcements, and Policy" -- I don't know why those people aren't discussing the RepRap wiki on the pages (such as the "discussion" pages) of the wiki itself.

Thank you, that helps a lot. I look forward to seeing you around Adjwilley 15:20, 4 March 2013 (UTC)

Re: welcome

Hi David,

Thank you for the interest, I'll continue to fill out all the documentation on the Holliger over then next few weeks. Glad to be here. Jonny.

In response to your questions about the wedge-together frame system: The system was designed to make assembling a RepRap much simpler. I've added a section (still a work in progress) to the Holliger page which begins to detail the frame. It was designed for the project so I'm afraid there's no in-depth book. However, I am planning to put up the dimensions and design considerations, and the system is as modular as I could make it. It is certainly my hope that people will be able to customise it and add parts to it. I'll finish the page over the next few weeks and after that I'd be happy to offer advice on any modifications. Jonny.

Thanks

Thanks for answering my question about vitamin counts on Choosing_Belts_and_Pulleys. I had no idea "vitamins" have there own definition on RepRap :) Fractal618 (talk) 15:30, 3 January 2016 (PST)

Refreshing content on Ramps 1.4 and other updates to vitamin wikis...

Hi David, Im working on updating some of the ramps pages and vitamins. Updating the content to make it more relevant, adding more value for DIYers building their own printer.

Im trying to make the look more modern, making new graphics, and trying to explain visually as much as possible.

Im doing templates to make some common components for for notes, cautions, pins, etc. Yet a lot of things could be simplified by adding some very lightly CSS styles to common.css.

Im also having trouble with revisions to images. The issue is that the site has an absurd cache policy, since Im not an admin I can not purge the cache for images (https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Manual:RebuildFileCache.php). As I work on iterations or corrections to an image they stay stock on the old version, now for three days, regardless of how you handle the cache at the browser. Also not sure who there are some SVG images on the site, yet the upload page does not allow to upload svgs.

Any help or pointer will be greatly appreciated!

Im also available to help with the administration of the site, I have over 16 years of web development experience, plenty of expertise with linux, apache, php mediawiki and alike.

Updating wikis...

Hi David

Do you know of any active administrators, Im working on a refresh and update for Ramps 1.4 pages.

Im created some new templates, but some things would be easier if a very light set of styles is added to common.css, just to freshen up the look on the wikis and make it easier to deliver ideas/content.
