Robots and Cranes: Robots and cranes complement each other nicely. Robot precision and speed plus crane load capacity and reach (large working area). Many configurations are possible to take advantage of this complementary features of robots and cranes. Robot mechanical play compensation using pull strings (rigid or flexible). Gearboxes with zero backlash are expensive. I propose here an alternative, a robot built with inexpensive gearmotors can achieve high precision if a force is applied using rigid or flexible strings to make its combined backlash to go to a fixed position. Top view, note the two gearmotors that pull the end effector on each side of the robot base. In this case a spring is used to control the tension that this strings pull the end effector to lock the gear play of the robot actuators into a fixed position. 20210707 113017 RobotPullstring1.jpg
