Talk:Mendel/Files

Would someone be willing to provide a .zip of a Mendel assembly (and parts) as either a Parasolid (.x_t) or STEP (.step) file? I'm having no luck with any of the currently-provided assembly formats with SolidWorks 2009 (the provided SW .zip is from SW 2010 and is not backwards-compatible). I can, in turn, provide the assembly in multiple formats, including eDrawings (which is a free viewer, no CAD required). --Nether10 16:49, 10 January 2011 (UTC)

Nether10, the solidworks files kicking around are extremely old. The most recent flavors of Mendel like Prusa Mendel were done up in openscad, which doesn't have STEP export. So, if you want work on cutting-edge Mendel, you'll have to import Prusa Mendel changes into Sells Mendel. Not to say that this is wrong or anything, but I think it'd be more fun for you and more useful to the greater community if you just do a blank-slate new machine using SolidWorks. Talk to Rob Gilson aka D1plo1d, who is doing up a delta in SW 2010, and he can send you a STEP file of that instead. Also, ask in here: .irc://chat.freenode.net/#reprap

What Tooling Do You Have? --Sebastien Bailard 04:32, 11 January 2011 (UTC)

Thanks Sebastien. Doing up a blank-slate machine might be the best (and fastest) option - I'll get the Mendel_Drawings and go from there, and watch both Isaac and Prusa Mendel for drawings/CAD files. Once I get something modeled up I'll offer it up in a few different formats so other CAD users like myself can have at it. --Nether10 14:32, 11 January 2011 (UTC)

Found Mendel .STEP assembly [Sourceforge]. Still hoping to find Prusa Mendel drawings and/or solid models (have contacted User:Prusajr for same). --Nether10 17:57, 11 January 2011 (UTC)
