Talk:Delta geometry
Well howdy.
I'm threadjacking here and I apologize.
I know it would be appropriate to discuss existing efforts towards refinement of the three input three output translation stages essential to all Delta printer work known to me.
I just want to do something that's really inappropriate here so I apologize again.
What do we do about the infinite number of degrees of freedom? Let me put it this way, one of the most useful conventional machine centers is the five axis. With the degree of rotation on the spindle comprises the remaining answers for the standard of six inherent tod geometry where we live.
So that said
Has anyone called together six parallel lead screws or six folded arms connecting to a single yoke providing six degrees of freedom for a printer head?
Check the answer is no... Next question
Shouldn't anybody try this?
I suspect also the answer is no.
However
The Stewart platform provides six degrees of freedom, and on a tangent, some of the Gantry cncs have interchangeable printer laser router heads.
So what if someone cobbled together a Stewart platform under a conventional Delta? Yahoosey you'd be able to print in any part of any conceivable model great big deal
Can a conventional Delta be stiffened and strengthened to deal with the rather large forces the much larger forces involved in milling grinding and other subtractive operations?
Certainly the wire Delta wouldn't do that
It looks to me as though the rotary arm Delta wouldn't do it
However the three lead screw and in this case either five or six lead screw Delta has it some hope of not only suspending a printing head using rigid arms but also suspending a milling head
This is what we call hybrid manufacturing
I've gone on long enough I've asked a couple questions I hope somebody picks this up and I hope that after we diverge on this topic we can either start a new thread, modify the Delta article, drop it at the entirely for a good reason if it comes up, or at a page on hybrid manufacturing to the reprap site.
I hope that by thread jacking this diversion I haven't corrupted the ongoing talk on refining the Delta page
So for that.
