SpoolHead plan B for feeding the wire uses a mechanical pencil with a push-button advance clutch. This method is being pursued due to difficulties with driving two stepper motors independently. A solenoid actuator drives the pencil, which the wire feeds through.
Currently, due to repeated plastic extruder failures, the parts are designed to be cut from aluminum sheet on an OMAX waterjet machining center.
