Hi Tim, I just noticed Libreprap. Would you like me to create a mailing list for it? --Sebastien Bailard 02:45, 10 January 2011 (UTC)

No, thanks. We'll have some real code behind it in the next day or two, and I'll send an announcement to reprap-dev at that time. Ideally, all the host softwares will transition to using it (though for now, only repsnapper and gcdump are committed), so it will be _very_ much on-topic. --Timothy Schmidt 03:32, 10 January 2011 (UTC)

No worries. I was just fretting that we'd have another non-reprap forum/mailing list which I'd be unable to integrate with our existing community. Regarding the term "off-topic". ... Another word for "off topic" is a "community of more than 2 people". Perhaps in an ideal world we'd have a sharply focused team working on an ideologically pure "ideal" RepRap. And in such a case, we'd want to minimize everything else as "noise", as an irritation or distraction. Unfortunately, pouring contempt on people's "off topic" contributions merely would drive them away to other websites, and poison the remaining community. And frankly, we as a group cannot even decide whether or not to have an LCD Screen with our Electronics, or whether or not we should upload files to reprap. (Answer: I think we should take both paths of a fork in the road, and yes indeedy we should upload files to our own server.) Then the cream, a good post-mendel and Fun, Useful, and Beautiful stuff floats to the top. Also it's more fun this way.

I'm getting a bit ranty.  :D Mostly because I'd like to recruit you as an ally; the next time we see our fellows fussing about "off-topic" let's try to defuse the tension by finding a graceful way to guide contributions into appropriate spaces rather than just letting one or two people kill discussion. We very nearly had a T-Slot working group going in reprap-dev before someone poured acid on it. It's quite frustrating ...

A strict reading of 'off-topic' would suggest that Harvester or the T-Slot Bots are off-topic for the wiki or for reprap-dev. Feh!

Agreed on all counts. --Timothy Schmidt 10:22, 10 January 2011 (UTC)
