you are welcome. Laszlo has no time to add all this info and I'm pretty knowledgeable on how his Hot End is designed and how it works so I'll try to add as much details there. Problem with files is that there are no "design files" - everything was made in the cnc + lathe shop - by hand. He just verbally explained to the manufacturers "what he needs them to make"...

A bit like Foton 3Dprinter, then. No worries. I am a little bit worried about the license he picked, it may not really be compatible with the general please-copy-me approach that we normally do for RepRap.

I'm thinking I will not make a big deal of it unless he tries to enforce his copyright and tell people: "please don't make a copy of this part of RepRap", which would immediately create conflict between him and the community that expects to be able to actually make RepRaps.

It would be a bit silly, I don't see him doing this.  :D

I decided to first go with something called "testBot" that is bit smaller (0.7^3) to test some ideas and it is "almost over", but I took now 3 months vacation from my hobbies so will finish it up in September .. have some more important things to finish first. Also, I'm not sure any more about documenting it ... I spent way too much time trying to use open source solutions for 3D documentation and it was a colossal waste of time. QCAD+OpenSCAD is ok to design small parts but making assemblies is painfully impossible .. freeCAD, heeksCAD .. are all 10 years away from release candidate ... on the commercial side the only one that works on Linux properly is Varicad but 710$ without upgrade possibility is not something I find "affordable" + I tested it for a while and can't say I like it at all ... none work properly with wine and inside VirtualBox there's CoCreate and SolidWorks that work ok. CoCreate lack parametric modelling and that is a serious problem for me. Apart from that flaw, the free version should be enough for all my reprap work, but, again .. no parametric stuff ... the PE version of Alibre (that is now 200$ and was free) have all that I need but is, unfortunately, unable to work inside VirtualBox (the VirtualBox support DX9 but looks like Alibre mix DX9 with some old deprecated DX functions so it does not work at all). So basically I'm left with SolidWorks that cost arm and a leg that I might be able to get from some local university (if they are able to give me one edu licence .. we'll see) ... All in all, at the moment, there is none open source usable 3D CAD software, there is some affordable CAD software for widows and none for linux... it does not make sharing of designs easy, on the contrary, it makes it "too much work to be fun"... If I managed to get SolidWorks to work legally on my computer I will do everything in it, this automatically means that mine designs will be available for only those who are able to open SolidWorks files -> (5000$ for the seat + over 1000$ for upgrades !!!!! ) ... If I don't manage to get SolidWorks to work on my machine - I will document testBot and cubeBot with a CANON 50D + gimp (person who said gimp is good alternative to photoshop should go and die) .. --Bogdan Kecman 08:19, 18 May 2011 (CET)

No worries.  :D Just do it up in your favorite cad program and stuff a .zip into the wiki. And then: q:"You should do that in FooCAD rather than BogdansfavoriteCAD". a:"Hmmm .... I'm really very busy. I did stuff some pdfs with mech. drawings in the .zip along with some .step and .bogdansfavoritcadfiles. I'm glad you like testBot and cubeBot. If you end up translating it into FooCAD please stuff some docs in the wiki for the next guy, eh?"

wrt mypaint, tried it out, it is good for painting but mine artistic capabilities are comparable to the earth worm or a piece of rock.. so no, I do not paint :D ... I use gimp for "fixing/retouching" pictures and for that photoshop is imho 10 classes better product.. (or to say it out loud, gimp is lousy excuse for photo editing application)... looks like multimedia is one segment (along with cad and electronics) where linux is way behind widows (and open source really don't have a "proper player" to compete on the market) .. anyhow, irrelevant to the *bot question ... I will made it the way I made it .. most probably I will end up making it without any tech documentation (none exist so far and testbot is almost done) so the documentation will be made with camera instead in cad app... --Bogdan Kecman 09:26, 18 May 2011 (CET)
