Introduction

Printrverse is a student-run web printing service based out of the 3D printing course offered at Penn State University (EDSGN497J: Open Source Source 3D printing). It exists as an interface for students from other courses to submit models that they would like 3D printed. The "customers" are predominantly freshman students in an introductory engineering design course. This service is offered at no cost to the students. Once a model is submitted, EDSGN497J students will print the part at their discretion (usually within days) and have it delivered to the customer. Printrverse automatically updates the customer with the status of the print via email.

How to Submit a Print

1) Create an .stl file. This can be accomplished using most 3D CAD programs (Google SketchUp, Solidworks, etc.). The file type can be chosen in the "Save as" dialog box.

2) Log on to psu.printrverse.com

3) Click "Submit Your Order Now"

4) Fill in information fields and upload the .stl file, as well as a screenshot of the 3D model.

5) Wait for the email saying your print is complete. Delivery will follow shortly.

Print Constraints

As quoted from Printrverse:

  • All print models must have a flat base!
  • All print models must not have overhangs at angles greater than 45 degrees!
  • In order to print correctly, try to: Cut model into smaller portions, Rotate the model for a flat base
  • Average prints should fit within: 5cm x 5cm x 4cm
  • Absolute Maximum: 15cm x 15cm x 10cm
  • Recommended minimum feature: 2.0mm
  • Absolute minimum feature: 0.5mm
  • This is the diameter of the extruded filament on most printers. Higher resolution nozzles will be capable of 0.25 (and possibly 0.35)
  • Taller things take longer to print
  • More complex things take longer to print
  • Completely solid things take longer to print
