Hisssss Problem...

  • Some ATX Power Supply's cause the stepper motors to have more hisss than others... If your motors suffer form loud hiss noise at low current settings then you might want to try another power supply... After swapping power supply's my steppers no longer hissssssss....!

Missing a Resistor?

Lots of people ask so.... (please anybody correct this if I am wrong...)

  • The two pads that look like their missing a resistor are for the RS485 end-of-the-line terminator. If you where to have multiple extruders you might need to install the termination resistor onto the last extruder board connected...
  • you might also need to install the termination resistor (onto the extruder board) if you have a long run of cable between the Main Motherboard and the extruder board...
  • This resistor is not normally needed.. The times when it might be needed are normally when you can't achieve any kind rs485 communication between the Main Motherboard and the Extruder Board. However this does not occur very often...

The 10 wire ribbon cable only has 9 wires?

  • Probably just a miscount along the way. But you need all 10 wires.
  • You can split a regular 40 wire Parallel ATA cable to make your own ribbon cables.
    • The maximum length you get of a regular cable is about 35 cm. (Or 53 cm if you are okay with leaving the stripped wires from the original connectors, which is probably not recommended).

Is the official Mendel thick sheet required?

  • They Tech Zone Remix boards are tiny compared to the first RepRap electronics, so you don't need all the space the original thick sheet offers.
  • One good option for the Mendel is this excellent design by Azdle, which is simple to make with a jigsaw and a drill press.
