12/1/12 Taulman 618Polyamide (aka "Nylon") round 3mm 3mm +/- .05 .45kg(1lb) not weighed $43.88(USD)/kg - $10.85 for 1 or 2 spools 10/10 This material opens up so many possibilities due to its pliability and toughness. It's also quite beautiful. Requires additional tightness of idler against extruder to "bite" into filament. Also warps strongly, similar to ABS. Unlike ABS, however, it's hard to get it to stick to the print surface. Have had great success printing on PCB breadboard heated to 60C. Leaves nubs on bottom of print, but no biggie. Also sticks well to Painters Mate Green tape, but tape doesn't stick well to platform so warpage of part pulls up the tape. Use of brim feature in Slic3r helps too. Only other struggle is extra back pressure that fights retraction. Retraction works, just not very well. If I can, I run the print with retraction off and travel speed high though with more detailed parts this isn't always possible. Sp with all these issues, why 10/10? Because they are all issues inherent to nylon. The material is perfectly round and within tolerance. It doesn't produce noticeable fumes. It's well packaged in a pretty ingenious disposable spool. It's reasonably priced and communication from the producer has been great.
