The belt splitter jig is needed to cut down wide belts. Mendel uses 5 mm wide belts, and stock belts usually come in either 10 mm or 15 mm widths.

The two RP part files for the belt splitter can be found in the cartesian bot files.

The directions below are for the 15 mm belt splitter - this splits a 5 mm wide length from a 15 mm wide belt. The accompanying spacer is used to split the remaining 10 mm wide belt in half.

Name Qty/assembly Total Qty Type
belt-split-jig-spacer-10mm-width_1off 1 1 RP
belt-split-jig-bracket-15mm-width_2off 2 2 RP
Box cutter/Stanley blade 1 1 Blade
M4x40 cap 4 4 Fastener
M4 nut 4 4 Fastener
M4 washer 8 8 Fastener

This is what it should look like, though the belt as been omitted for clarity ;-)

BLADE WARNING: Use leather gloves or be prepared to loose fingers.

Assemble with the belt in place. Tighten bolts. Work the blade into the belt.

Insert blade fully. Pull belt through.
